Setting
Located in the Masai Mara Reserve within the Olare Orok Conservancy, Kicheche Bush Camp is a secluded camp, situated within a thicket of Euclea and African Olives. Bordering the Masai Mara Game Reserve, game viewing starts right from the camp itself. Kicheche Bush Camp’s location is ideal for experiencing the annual wildebeest migration.
Accommodation & Facilities
The six custom designed tents at Kicheche Bush Camp are spacious and fully insect-proof. Each is equipped with twin or double beds, fresh linen, bedside tables, luggage racks and rugs. En-suite bathrooms include a dresser, flushing toilet and traditional safari bucket shower with a view. Each tent has a veranda overlooking the plains, with comfortable chairs for relaxing and observing the wildlife. For larger groups and families, one tent can be converted into a triple on request.
Kicheche Bush Camp has a spacious, well-furnished lounge and dining tent, although meals are often taken al-fresco. This intimate camp lends itself to communal dining, although private dining can be arranged on request.
Dining
Cooks produce a variety of African and international dishes and special dietary requirements can be catered for. Fresh produce is flown in regularly and bread and pastries are baked daily.
Activities
Early morning and late afternoon game drives operate in customised 4x4 vehicles. Superbly designed for photographers, the 4x4 fleet is open-sided with open roofs. Cameras can be rested on the roof, with supplied beanbags, or on the armrests lower down, to which platforms may be mounted for larger lenses.
Walking safaris lead by expert guides, Masai village visits and excursions to the Kicheche Community Project’s schools are also available.
Kicheche Bush Camp can arrange early morning hot air balloon rides, with champagne breakfasts. Price is approx. US$450 per person and should be booked in advance.
Child Policy
Children of all ages accepted at Kicheche Bush Camp but it is not recommended for small children - the camp is unfenced and there are often wild animals around.
Responsible Tourism
Kicheche strongly support the local communities and the Koiyaki Guiding School, which trains local Masai to become guides. The Camp’s mission is to encourage the preservation of the environment whilst improving the welfare of the community through improved health and education facilities.
